Some people find three or four years old is a perfect age to join preschool, while others allow their children to join primary school when they are mature enough. Sending children to the preschool at a young age has some merits and demerits which I will discuss in the paragraphs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of early preschool attendance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the advantages (skill development and parental work-life balance) are supported with examples, the disadvantages section is less developed and lacks a clear conclusion or summary. The essay identifies the topic well, but the discussion of disadvantages feels rushed compared to the advantages. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that a clear, consistent position is maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'In other words,' 'Additionally,' and 'Despite its advantages' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'as early they join the primary, as soon they will learn.' The paragraphing is appropriate, but the concluding paragraph is missing, which affects the overall sense of progression and closure. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a strong conclusion would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cognitive skills,' 'logical reasoning,' and 'hectic work schedules.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'bust' instead of 'busy,' and the repetitive use of 'primary school' when the prompt refers to 'preschool.' The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Expanding the range of synonyms and collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('she go every morning'), incorrect article usage ('the preschool'), and awkward sentence construction ('it disadvantages cannot be overlooked'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in comma placement. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free, as these errors currently limit the score in this criterion.
