Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age. Your position is generally clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or overly generalized. For instance, the discussion on the advantages mentions making children punctual and learning to socialize, but these points lack deeper elaboration or specific examples. Similarly, the disadvantages focus on losing childhood and stress, but the connection between preschool homework and severe psychological harm is exaggerated and unsupported by realistic examples. To reach a higher band, ensure that all main ideas are fully extended and backed up with more plausible, well-developed explanations and examples. Nonetheless, all parts of the task prompt are covered adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs covering advantages and disadvantages respectively, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is at times disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesive devices. For example, transition phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'therefore' are used, but sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth linking. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'merits and demerits of this'. Paragraphing is present and follows a conventional essay structure, but the internal cohesion needs more sophisticated transitional ties to guide the reader seamlessly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it contains frequent word-choice errors, odd collocations, and morphological mistakes. Examples include 'three or four years offsprings' instead of 'three- or four-year-old children', 'advanatge' (spelling error), 'learning to be socialise', 'freinds', 'wiithout', 'loosing childhood time' (losing), and 'suffered with the burdern'. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'discrimination' and 'career opportunities', but inaccuracies in word formation and spelling reduce precision. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to convey your meaning, but frequent slips prevent it from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but it is heavily impacted by frequent grammatical errors. Examples of structural and grammatical inaccuracies include 'young ones have to enough old before sending them' (missing verbs and incorrect adjective placement), 'before start a study' (gerund/infinitive error), 'if parents send them school' (missing preposition), 'They are struggle with stress' (incorrect verb tense/voice), and 'begin to living' (gerund error). Punctuation errors are also present, such as incorrect semicolon usage ('...enough; they start...'). While the meaning can generally be understood, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors means that error-free sentences are in the minority.
