Student answer (Band 6.0)

At a very young age some parents admit their children to pre-schools or daycares, and on the contrary some of the population like to send schools when they are a little older. Both the merits and demerits will be discussed in the following paragraphs with relevant examples.

The foremost reason parents want to send their children to preschools since , both mother and father are working and most families nowadays are becoming nuclear .So, to take care of their child, they send them to daycare. It has been difficult for parents to manage work and stay all day with their kids, they find this way to continue there work without negelecting their children. Furthermore, children learns lot of basis things before attending the school, at daycares , daycares teach kids the alphabet and numbers with games that help them grow both physically and mentally.

On the other hand, there are also some people who avoid sending kids to any school because they dont trust other people in taking care ,becuase they feel no one can treat good to their kids as good as their own parents. Furthermore the fees for daycares are increasing as sky rockets and many parents can not afford it , Since, they send the kids to their grandparents and save money till it is not necessary for kids to be at school.

In conclusion,I believe send children to pre-school have more advantages than disadvantages because at last it all matters the children are in safe hands and develop some skills in young age.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age. The student takes a clear position in the conclusion, stating that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Ideas are introduced, such as working parents and the development of basic skills as advantages, and high costs and lack of trust as disadvantages. However, some of these ideas remain somewhat under-developed and lack extended explanation or fully realised supporting examples. For instance, the point about daycares teaching numbers and the alphabet is briefly stated rather than explored in depth. Consequently, the response fits best into Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, but some elements are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the argument, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the topic. However, cohesive devices are occasionally faulty, mechanical, or awkward, as seen in expressions like 'on the contrary some of the population like to send schools' and 'In conclusion,I believe send children'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences can also be clunky, occasionally impeding the natural flow of ideas. While the overall logical organisation is clear enough to follow, these repetitive cohesive flaws and punctuation issues place the response firmly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'nuclear family', 'daycares', 'physical and mentally', and 'afford'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors, spelling mistakes, and inappropriate collocations throughout the text. Examples include 'admit their children' instead of 'enroll their children', 'basis things' instead of 'basic things', 'there work' instead of 'their work', 'negelecting' instead of 'neglecting', 'treat good to their kids' instead of 'treat their kids well', and 'increasing as sky rockets' instead of 'skyrocketing'. Because these lexical errors occur frequently alongside some appropriate general vocabulary, the response earns a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. For example, the student successfully uses subordinate clauses such as 'since both mother and father are working'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage, preposition selection, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'children learns' instead of 'children learn', 'avoid sending kids to any school because they dont trust other people in taking care' (missing object), and 'believe send children' instead of 'believe sending children'. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, are also present. These errors occasionally cause minor strain for the reader, matching the Band 5.5 descriptor.
