Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age. Ideas such as parental working schedules, basic arts and crafts, and social interaction are introduced. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. Additionally, the response suffers from a significant drawback in that it fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 236 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length impacts the overall completeness of the task, placing the response in Band 5.5 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, showing an attempt at overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as starting sentences with 'As result' or 'Therefore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'the side' in the introduction. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas often lacks smoothness, leading to a Band 5.0 score for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'fundamental things', 'group interaction', and 'early development'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'enrol into the school' instead of 'enrol in school', and 'interacting the monotonous things' instead of 'interacting with monotonous items'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical errors prevent the writer from achieving a higher band, resulting in a score of 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Most of the parents has to work') and missing articles ('a studies shows', 'parent can hardly involved'). Furthermore, awkward phrasing such as 'children who have poor development in early age would more like to have poor career' demonstrates difficulties with complex structures. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing this criterion at Band 5.0.
