Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the advantages are briefly touched upon as children learning to sit in class, make friends, and respect teachers, while the disadvantages mention stress and wanting to spend time with parents. The writer attempts to take a position, stating in the conclusion that children should not be sent to preschool at a young age, though this is slightly contradicted by confusing phrasing at the very end. Overall, the task is addressed, but the ideas lack sufficient extension and detailed support, aligning best with a band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is weak and confused by repetitive phrasing. Transitional markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' are used to structure the text, but sentences within paragraphs run on without clear punctuation, often joined by commas instead of full stops, as seen in 'Because children understand how to sit... they also know...'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'there' instead of 'their'. While there is a basic structural layout, the lack of cohesive control and mechanical cohesion places this response at a band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'children', 'young age', 'school', and 'parents'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as spelling errors ('Nowdays', 'eassy', 'disscuess', 'freinds', 'streese', 'opnion') and grammatical confusion with word forms (e.g., 'study' used as a noun where 'studying' or 'education' is intended). The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, meaning that while the general topic is understood, the lexical limitations cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the criteria for a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed attempts at complex sentences that result in run-on sentences or fragments, such as starting clauses with 'Because' without completing the main independent clause logically. Frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and prepositions are evident throughout the text (e.g., 'what teacher teach teach us', 'childrens want play', 'do'not have trust on any body'). These frequent grammatical errors cause constant difficulty and strain for the reader, which corresponds to a band 4.0.
