IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old. Other parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age.
Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many parents send their children to the daycares in their early age. However some of them wait until their children get old enough. This essay will elucidate both, the advantages and the disadvantages in the upcoiming paragraphs.

To begin with, the first and foremost advantage is that children can develop so many new things such as learning, reading and adapting with the new environment. They may become more confident and develop their intellectual abilities. In addition to that, learning at the early age will build the better and stronger ability to adapt the new changes. For example, recent study has shown in which they find out about the children those who started their school at their early age are very sharp minded and very brilliant student as compared to those who are older than them.

One major disadvantage of sending children to preschool at a very young age is that they may experience separation anxiety, as they are not yet emotionally prepared to spend long periods away from the parents. They may have less family time with their parents and other family members. Moreover some preschools has traditional teaching which puts the acadrmic presure on the children in which it is very hard for them to cope up with these teaching standards. For instance, a four year child who starts preschool may feel anxious and lonely because they are suddenly separated from their parents for several hours each day.

In conclusion, although starting preschooling is good for the children to learn and adapt with the new environment in their intial age but however it brings too much academic pressure at their early age which is not good for their mental development. Therefore, the decision should depend on the childs emotional readiness and individual needs.
