Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age, touching on areas such as social circles, stress, and family time. However, the task achievement is heavily compromised because the length requirement is NOT met; the response contains only 209 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. Furthermore, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing, such as the argument regarding employment age limits and productivity which strays from the core topic of early childhood education. Consequently, the position is not always clearly sustained, and several points remain under-developed. These limitations place the response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs attempting an introduction, body paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections, such as 'There are both types of parents who support to send children preschool...' and 'On the other hand, it is also have the drawback...'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and cohesive devices are used in a mechanical or inaccurate manner. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks fluency, resulting in a disorganized overall progression. These factors align closely with the Band 5.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. The student attempts some less common phrases like 'educational journey' and 'energetic young blood candidates', but these often suffer from awkward collocations and imprecise word choices, such as 'stuitable' and 'age-fellows'. There are also frequent word-choice inaccuracies and spelling mistakes, such as 'preffered', 'de-track', and 'childrens'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey general meaning, the noticeable errors and limited range prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 an appropriate assessment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the conditional structure 'If we would like to talk about the advantages there are the many benefits...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage, including 'support to send', 'old children are more stuitable', and 'on the later age it is more chance'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, leading to sentence fragments. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of a Band 5.0 performance.
