Student answer (Band 6.0)
Most families prefer their three or four year old kids to send to preschools while other families like to wait and send them directly for primary school. During preschool, toddler learn how to socialize with other kids, learn some basics whereas in primary school student starts their academic journey. This essay will further discuss merits and dimerits of joining preschool at a young age.
Sending preschool at young age has many advantages. First and foremost is that they learn to socialize with other children. For instance, when they go to preschool they share their toys, try to communicate with other kids even though they donot know how to speak properly. They feel safe with other kids of some age, also, caregiver are there for their safety. Secondly, Preschool does not conduct examination, no one can judge toddlers by their intelligence. They are free mind to learn at their own pace.
On the other side, young kids are more vulnerable to diseases. At preschool, kids are more exposed to illness. For example, when a kid who has flu shares his toys with other classmates without sanitizing spread the illness to other classmates. Secondly, sometimes young kids are extremely attached with their parents and they feel anxiety when they got seperated. In result, they feel lack of emotional bonding.
In conclusion, I agree kids are more vulnerable to illness and feel fear and anxiety when they got seperated from their families, still preschool has more benefits as children learn to socialize, sharing attributes, some basics studies, communication and so on.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age, thereby fulfilling the prompt requirements. A clear position is presented in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the advantages of socialization and a pressure-free environment are extended with examples like sharing toys, the disadvantages are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on brief assertions about vulnerability to illness and separation anxiety. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be equally extended and supported with more detailed explanation and broader examples rather than relying on generalized points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic running throughout. Information is organized into logical paragraphs, with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs addressing merits and demerits, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'On the other side'. However, referencing and cohesion are at times mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the opening sentence where pronoun and particle usage lead to a slightly disjointed flow. The step up to the next performance level requires smoother, more natural transitions and a more sophisticated control of referencing, ensuring that logical links between sentences and paragraphs are entirely seamless and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's meaning regarding early childhood education. The response attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'vulnerable', 'sanitizing', and 'separation anxiety', demonstrating a willingness to expand lexical range. Nevertheless, there are notable word choice, word form, and collocation errors that occasionally impede smooth reading, such as 'dimerits' instead of 'demerits', 'Sending preschool' instead of 'Sending children to preschool', and 'free mind' instead of 'free minds'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies persist throughout. Achieving a higher band would require a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, demonstrating better control over collocations, word forms, and spelling with fewer slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and subordinate clauses, as seen in 'when a kid who has flu shares his toys'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('to preschool', 'for primary school'), incorrect prepositions ('sent to preschools while other families like to wait and send them directly for primary school'), subject-verb agreement issues ('toddler learn', 'caregiver are'), and passive/active voice confusion ('kids are more send to preschool'). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex structures, particularly regarding articles, prepositions, and grammatical concord.
