Student answer (Band 6.0)

Influx of people believes that it is best to send their kids for preschooling at the age of 3-4, whereas some of them thinks that letting them grow old enough for primary school before sending them to school is a good idea.

Talking about advantages of sending kids early to school is giving them a early exposure to the world, which allocates them a window to grow and learn at a faster pace, because children at this age are super active and learn everything they see, which they might not be able to learn sooner in the family. For example, Learning ethics and formal behaviour, getting disciplined and chance to be with a lots of other kids, where they begin social learning.

Whereas, letting child grow first at home has it's own pros like you can mold or discipline your child the way you want and set up a strong foundation for him. Helping him to behave and learn family manners better by yourself, it is not wrong to say that learning starts at home and parents are the first teachers.

Putting some light on disadvantages of sending child to school at early age is getting into some bad habits which they might learn from fellow classmates and chances to not behave appropriately at home and may get frustrated from school if got teased by other students.

On the other hand letting kid grow at home may be not as good for kid itself. For instance, lack of social skills and adaptability, knowing the direction of life. Reason behind is they grow up in family along with parents and siblings, so other than those faces they do not feel comfortable to open up.

To conclude, both scenarios comes with it's positive and negative aspects, but it totally depends on the nature of job their parents do and time they can spare for their kids.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of sending children to preschool at a young age. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some parts are more fully developed than others. While the advantages of early schooling, such as early exposure and social learning, are explained with some supporting details like 'learning ethics and formal behaviour', the disadvantages are somewhat brief and under-developed. For instance, the point regarding children picking up bad habits or getting frustrated is mentioned rather superficially without being extended further. To reach a higher band, all ideas would need to be thoroughly extended and supported with deeper explanations and more comprehensive examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the discussion into logical paragraphs, including separate sections for advantages and disadvantages. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between ideas, such as 'Talking about advantages', 'Whereas', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion can at times feel a bit mechanical or faulty, such as in the abrupt transitions between paragraphs. Furthermore, while paragraphing is present, the grouping of ideas could be smoother to create a clearer overall progression. To achieve the next level, cohesive devices would need to be managed with greater flexibility, and the logical progression between sentences and paragraphs must be maintained more seamlessly throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common lexical items such as 'preschooling', 'adaptability', and 'super active'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'Influx of people believes' instead of 'Many people believe', and 'giving them a early exposure' instead of 'an early exposure'. There are also minor stylistic issues, like 'Putting some light on disadvantages'. These errors and awkward phrasings do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the response from achieving a higher band, which requires a more precise and flexible use of vocabulary with fewer errors in word choice and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures throughout the essay. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence structure, article usage, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'some of them thinks' instead of 'think', 'letting child grow' instead of 'letting a child grow', 'it has it's own pros', and dangling modifiers such as 'if got teased'. Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. These errors occur across both simple and complex sentences. While communication is rarely completely blocked, the frequency of these grammatical slips keeps the accuracy level restricted, as a higher band would require a greater proportion of error-free sentences and better control over complex grammatical patterns.
