Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a trend that a few parents send their children to school too early when they are just three to four year, while other parents wait untill their kids are older enough for the elementary school. The trend of early school education for instance, kindergarten has become popular since the last few decades, many people argue that it is beneficial while others reject this notion. The significant influence of this trend has sparked the controversy over its potantial impact on the society. In my opinion both perspectives are equally important, and this essay will pinpoint the reasons. First and foremost, the reason is that when a child goes to th school at the age of three to four, he becomes familiar to the regulations and environments of the school in his early age. In addition, he learns the social skills and descipline which leads him to become more confident and successful in his student life.Nevertheless, it is more beneficial for the parents who work in the office, they send their kids to school and remain satisfied that their kids are in good hands and busy in appropriate activities. This trend is also useful for the people which have the care giving responsibilities, such as taking care of someone elder and ill person at home.On the other hand, when the children go to school in their late childhood they enjoy a lot at home and become more confident inaddition they are more strong and less vulnerable to catch germs at school. Many developed countries have this trend, such as Turkey and China, that the children go to school in their seventh year of age. To recapitulate, it is proved that the both trends are beneficial and have their positive impact on society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question by describing possible benefits of preschool and reasons some parents wait, and your final sentence recognises that both choices can have advantages. Relevant points include children learning social skills and parents who work having childcare support. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the benefits are listed rather than explained with examples, and the disadvantages are less clearly connected to preschool—for instance, enjoying time at home and being less exposed to germs are mentioned without showing why these outweigh early learning. The opening also promises to discuss “both perspectives” but does not establish a precise position. To strengthen the response, explain each point and add a relevant example, while making clear that the focus is the advantages and disadvantages of preschool at ages three or four.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction, moves to advantages, then uses “On the other hand” for the contrasting view, and ends with a summary. These signposts help readers identify the broad structure. However, progression within the discussion is not consistently clear. The first body section combines children’s adjustment, social skills, working parents, and family caregiving without a clear sequence or paragraph break. The contrast between preschool and starting primary school is also not always explicit, and the conclusion repeats the general claim rather than drawing together the main points. Some linking phrases, such as “First and foremost” and “In addition,” signal connections but do not explain them. Use separate, focused paragraphs and connect each reason to the central comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “social skills,” “regulations,” “vulnerable,” and “care giving responsibilities,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “sparked the controversy” and “potential impact.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “trend,” “beneficial,” and “confident,” and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “older enough,” “familiar to the regulations,” and “more strong.” Spelling errors such as “untill,” “potantial,” and “descipline” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “become familiar with school routines” and “develop independence,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make the comparison easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional-style time clause (“when a child goes to school…”) and a contrast introduced by “while.” This shows some willingness to vary sentence forms. However, complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow, and errors occur frequently. For example, “when they are just three to four year” has a number-agreement problem, while “when the children go to school in their late childhood they enjoy a lot at home” needs clearer sentence structure and punctuation. There are also missing or incorrect articles and prepositions, as in “goes to th school” and “familiar to the regulations.” Several ideas run together without full stops, including the opening sentence. Practise accurate sentence boundaries, articles, plural forms, and preposition patterns before adding further complexity.
