Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some parents enroll their toddlers into preschool while others wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they begin school. This essay will discuss the benefits and downsides of sending youngsters to school at a young age.
There are several advantages of early elementary education for kids. Firstly, when children are enrolled into preschool at a young age, it promotes physical development and enhance their communication skills. The teachers allow toddlers to share toys, play games and engage in educational activities that support normal growth and development process. Constantly sharing the same space with their peer allow children to learn how to communicate, develop and express their emotions. For instance, kids begin to understand the concept of friendship by sharing toys and snacks with their favourite classmate.
Secondly, we live in a fast-paced world, where many parents have busy schedules and responsibilities. Therefore, they have limited time to adequately homeschool their children. Sending the children to preschool offers the parents the opportunity to focus on their professional tasks and responsibilities while also ensuring that their children receive the necessary educational training and guidance required for their age. For instance, most preschoolers spend 8-10 hours at school learning and engaging in fun activities with their classmates while their parents work hard to meet their needs.
Although enrolling kids in school too early can also have a negative impact on them. Children grow and learn at a different pace. While some youngsters can easily identify all the letters of the english alphabets, some find it difficult to identify the first ten alphabets. Enrolling preschoolers to school at a very early age can lead to unneccesary pressure and comparison with other kids which could negatively affect their emotional wellbeing. For example, a child may feel bad when he is unable to complete a puzzle that his classmate finished in few minutes. This experience could affect this child’s self-esteem because he is not emotionally mature at that age.
In conclusion, although enrolling children into school at a young age enhance early development and communication, it can also open them to unneccesary comparison and pressure which could affect their self esteem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both advantages and disadvantages and maintains a clear overall position: preschool can support development and help working parents, but may create pressure for children who develop at different rates. The examples about sharing toys and struggling with a puzzle make the points relevant. However, the two advantages are not equally developed: the discussion of parents’ schedules focuses more on convenience than on how preschool benefits children, and the disadvantage is mainly illustrated through one comparison scenario. To strengthen the response, explain the effects of these points in more depth and consider a further disadvantage, such as separation anxiety or reduced time with family. The 12 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement, with an introduction, two paragraphs on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Although,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, transitions can feel mechanical, and the disadvantage paragraph begins with “Although” but is not completed as a contrast clause. Some references, such as “this child,” are also repeated rather than varied. Use more natural links between ideas and ensure each paragraph’s opening sentence clearly signals its relationship to the previous point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for discussing early education, development, and family responsibilities. Phrases such as “communication skills,” “emotional wellbeing,” “professional tasks,” and “self-esteem” help express the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, including “educational activities” and “emotional mature.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “enroll … into preschool” is less natural than “enrol … in preschool,” and “the first ten alphabets” should refer to letters. Spelling errors such as “unneccesary” and “english” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “when,” “while,” and “because.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the examples are generally easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “it promotes physical development and enhance their communication skills,” the verbs do not agree; “enhance” should be “enhances.” “Their peer allow” also needs plural agreement (“peers allow”), while “Although enrolling kids in school too early can also have a negative impact on them” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence. There are also article and preposition issues, as in “finished in few minutes.” Review agreement and clause boundaries, and proofread articles and prepositions while retaining the range of sentence structures already attempted.
