Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a difference of opinion on when should a child be sent to school, some parents argue sending children to preschool at a early stage is more beneficial to them in respect to growth whereas some believe children should start school when they are a suitable age for primary school.
Children starting preschool at earlier years of their lives can bring out a lot of character development. Children going out everyday meeting and interacting with similar age individuals can be a source of growth. Some toddlers start forming proper sentences in their language while trying to communicate with their classmates. They even start eating properly while noticing how other classmates are having regular meals. For instance, i remember when my niece was a toddler she barley spoke and was super shy but ever since she joined preschool we saw drastic change in her personality.
Another point to be noted in that children of this age need to burn their energy somewhere, preschool in the morning is an ideal place where they can be active all day and once they are home they can have a proper goodnight's sleep.
On the other side of the table some people believe children in their early years should stay home and bond with their parents instead of waking up every morning and going out of the house leaving every little time for them to spend time with each other.
Parents think that this time is very crucial to form meaningful relationships with their offspring.
In my perspective, sending toddlers to preschool is very important for their character development. Parents can give time to their children over the weekend to form memories instead of children staying home all week while their parents are busy managing work and household chores.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response discusses both sides of the question and gives a clear preference for preschool, so the main task is addressed. The benefits are supported with relevant examples: interaction is linked to language and social development, and the niece’s experience illustrates increased confidence. However, the disadvantages are less fully explored. The point about bonding with parents is relevant, but it is stated briefly and would benefit from explaining what young children might miss or why home care could be preferable. The final view that preschool is “very important” is clear, though the claim that parents can make up for lost time at weekends is not developed. Extending both sides more evenly would make the discussion more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on the opposing view, and a concluding opinion. The reader can follow the progression, and phrases such as “For instance” and “On the other side” help signal examples and contrast. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence joins two complete ideas with a comma, and “Another point to be noted in that” does not clearly introduce the next reason. The disadvantage paragraph is also much shorter and less developed than the advantages paragraph, which makes the discussion feel uneven. Use clearer transitions and develop each side in a more balanced paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “character development,” “interacting,” “meaningful relationships,” and “offspring.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the personal example adds specificity. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “a source of growth,” “proper goodnight’s sleep,” and “on the other side of the table.” There are also spelling and word-choice slips, including “barley” where “barely” is intended, and “everyday” where the adverbial phrase should be “every day.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as the sentence beginning “Children starting preschool…” and the clause “while trying to communicate with their classmates.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening uses incorrect question-word order in “when should a child be sent” and has a comma splice between two independent clauses. Other examples include “at a early stage” and “Another point to be noted in that,” where article use and sentence structure need correction. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, as in “i remember.” Practise accurate clause linking, articles, and sentence boundaries while retaining the range of structures you are attempting.
