Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a discussion about sending children to preeschool when they are just three or four years. But, on the other hand, some parents thinks we should wait until they get old enough for primary school . In the upcoming paragraphs i will discuss the merits and demerits of sending children to preschool at a young age.

The first and foremost advantage is in the pre school a child learn ample of things like reading, writing and art . All these things prepare a child for primary school it can help them to get settle in primary school easily. It also teaches them to share their things like toys or food with each other. Moreover, a child can learn how to behave with other children in primary school and also develops feeling of sharing and caring.

The second advantage is it also made them independent for primary school. However, it also helpful for working parents since they can not give proper time to their children due to their work, it can help the child to grow mentally faster.

It has some demerits also because a child can feel alone without their family and may fall sick due to loneliness. They can also feel anxious with strangers.

To conclude, it has both pros and cons. But in my opinion, advantages overpowers the disadvantages. Pre schools can help a child to become indipentent for pre school and they also learn a lot of activities in pre school. Parents should choose a good preschool for their child so that they can feel happy and safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both the advantages and disadvantages and give a clear overall view in the conclusion: “advantages overpowers the disadvantages.” Relevant benefits include preparation for primary school, learning to share, and support for working parents; you also mention loneliness and anxiety around strangers. However, several points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that preschool makes children “independent” is not illustrated, and the disadvantage section is much less developed than the advantages. The conclusion also repeats benefits instead of weighing them against the risks in detail. To strengthen the response, explain how each point affects a child and add a specific example or comparison, while keeping your position clear throughout. The length requirement is met; nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “To conclude” help show the direction of the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise. “The second advantage is it also made them independent” does not connect smoothly to the previous point, and “However” introduces a benefit for working parents rather than a contrast. The paragraph about advantages also combines several ideas without clearly separating or developing them. Use transitions according to the relationship between ideas, and organise each paragraph around one main point with explanation or an example. This would make progression clearer and references easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “primary school,” “working parents,” “anxious,” and “loneliness.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “merits and demerits.” However, the range is limited and some choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the response less clear. Examples include “ample of things,” “get settle,” “overpowers,” and “indipentent”; “preeschool” and “pre school” are also inconsistent spellings. Repetition of “child,” “school,” and “learn” further limits variety. Build a small set of accurate collocations for education and child development, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express the ideas without relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause in “since they can not give proper time” and a conditional purpose in “so that they can feel happy and safe.” However, the range remains limited, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “some parents thinks” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “a child learn” and “it also made them independent” use incorrect verb forms. The sentence beginning “All these things prepare a child for primary school” runs into “it can help” without clear punctuation or a conjunction. Practise accurate present-tense agreement and joining clauses, then proofread for sentence boundaries, capitalisation, and commas. Clearer control of these basics will make your meaning easier to follow.
