Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some children are sent to kindergarten by their parents when they are just three or four years old, while other parents wait until their kids become mature for elementary school before they send them to school. This essay will discuss both merits and demerits of sending children to preschool at a young age.
The primary benefit of sending their children to preschool at young age is beneficial to develop social skills. By interacting with others, such as their instructors and their peer, they could learn sharing, working in a group and how to communicate with them effectively. This could facilitate them to become socially sound and mature. Furthermore, preschool prepares children academically for primary school. If they become familiar with numbers, colors and classroom routine, this will absolutely assist children to have smoother transition to formal education, which could not be straightforward for the majority of children who did not attended preschool.
Nonetheless, sending their children to preschool at early age has a couple of drawbacks. First and foremost is feeble family bonding. if parents send their children preschool at very young age, they have lack of time to spend with each others as they spend their major parts of a day at preschool. Consequently, they do not have robust bonding, which could lead to detrimental repercussions, for instance, children may avoid to talk about what is going on in their life. Moreover, attending preschool at early age can cause emotional stress. Some children may not be ready to spend several hours away from their parents, which can make them feel anxious or insecure.
All things considered, although sending children, to preschool when they are three or four years old, has some pros like they can develop social skills and get exposure about primary school but it could be deleterious for them because they have lack of swell time to spend with parents, leading to anxiety. Therefore, I firmly believe that parents should wait until they become mature to attend elementary school.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the question and gives a clear position: the conclusion recommends waiting until children are mature enough for elementary school. The benefits—social development and preparation for formal learning—and drawbacks—less time with parents and possible anxiety—are relevant. The examples of learning to share and becoming familiar with classroom routines help explain the benefits. This also shows some of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the family-bonding point is asserted more than explored, and the conclusion introduces anxiety as a reason for the recommendation without fully connecting it to the earlier discussion. Develop these ideas with a specific example or clearer explanation of how the effects may vary among children.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear four-paragraph structure: introduction, benefits, drawbacks, and conclusion. Its progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Nonetheless,” and “All things considered” make the contrast between the two sides clear. Within paragraphs, ideas generally move from a claim to an explanation or consequence. To make the organisation more flexible and polished, improve a few links between sentences and avoid relying on formulaic transitions. For example, the conclusion repeats the main points but could synthesise them more directly, showing how the benefits compare with the emotional and family-related concerns. Some references, such as “they” in the discussion of family bonding, could also be made more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for discussing early education, and the response attempts a range of less common expressions, including “detrimental repercussions,” “socially sound,” and “emotional stress.” Meaning remains clear overall. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “feeble family bonding” and “robust bonding” are awkward, while “get exposure about primary school” does not express the intended idea naturally. There are also word-form and collocation problems, such as “their peer” and “swell time.” Choose familiar, accurate combinations rather than forcing elevated vocabulary, and check whether each phrase fits its context. More precise wording would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses (“If they become familiar with numbers…”) and relative clauses (“which could lead to detrimental repercussions”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “at young age” and “send their children preschool,” which need articles or prepositions, and “children who did not attended preschool,” where the verb form is incorrect. In “they have lack of time,” the article is missing, and “if” after the full stop should begin with a capital letter. Review articles, verb forms after auxiliaries, and sentence punctuation. Greater accuracy in these areas would strengthen the control of the varied structures already attempted.
