Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowadays, send their children to preschool is becoming more and more popular, Some people think that children should old enough for primary school before they send them to school. However, I believe that parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old has both advantage and disadvantages . These viewpoint will be discussed in the following essay.

Some people think children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school. Young can miss their parents and feel sad, they have to stay at school many hours without their parents. Therefore, they can cry and not want to go to school. Moreover, young can get sick more easy at school, they play with many other young so if child sick other young can get sick. Therefore, parents can need to stay at home to take care of their young.

However, I believe young go to school have the advantages. First, sending young to parents can help parents have more time to work. Teacher can take care of their young and young can study a lot of thing at school. Second, young can play with other young at school. they can make new friends and fun together. Therefore, they make feel happy and less bored.

In conclusion, Some people think that children should old enough for primary school before they send them to school. However, I believe that parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old because young can study a lot of things and parents have time to works.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both sides of the question by describing possible separation and illness concerns, then giving benefits such as parental work time and children making friends. Your concluding preference for preschool is also identifiable. However, the discussion is brief and several points are asserted rather than explained; for example, you say children “can get sick more easy” but do not develop how this affects the decision to delay school. The response contains 199 words, so it is 51 words below the required minimum; 63 words copied from the prompt were not counted. This limits the opportunity to explain and support your ideas. Develop each advantage and disadvantage with a reason or relevant example, and make the comparison between preschool and starting primary school clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about disadvantages, a paragraph about advantages, and a conclusion. Basic linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “However” help show relationships between points. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and “Therefore” is repeated without always making the connection between ideas clear. The opening and conclusion also repeat almost the same wording rather than advancing or summarising the argument. Some references, such as “they” and “young,” are unclear or repetitive, making it harder to follow who is being discussed. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each reason to its consequence, and vary referencing—for example, “children,” “preschoolers,” and “their classmates.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “preschool,” “parents,” “teacher,” “study,” and “friends,” so the main ideas can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “young” and “school.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “sending young to parents” and “make feel happy,” which can strain the reader’s understanding. There are also word-form and collocation problems, including “more easy” and “a lot of thing.” Build a wider set of topic vocabulary and check how words combine in natural English. More precise expressions such as “preschool children,” “socialise with peers,” and “become ill more easily” would help communicate your points clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some longer sentences using “because,” “when,” and “so,” and the basic meaning is often recoverable. However, sentence structures are very limited overall, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “Nowadays, send their children to preschool is becoming” lacks a grammatical subject and uses an incorrect verb form; “parents send their children … has” has subject–verb disagreement. In “they can cry and not want to go to school,” the reference is understandable, but several surrounding sentences are joined or punctuated awkwardly. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses. Check that every sentence has a subject and finite verb, and review agreement and punctuation.
