Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some parents send their children to preschool when they are three or four years old. Other parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school. Both views have their own advantages and disadvantages. In my openion, sending children to preschool at a young age have more advantages for both children and parents.

On the one hand, sending children to preschool at their early age have both positive and negative impacts. Youngers can move with their same aged ones and teachers. Also they can find friends too. Little ones can learn something new like songs, patterns, dances and games. Teachers teach them good manners and help to emprove their abilities. parents do not need to find day care centers for their children because nursery are safer than day cares. But sometimes children have limited time to stay home with their family members because they have to go to the school in every morning. Little ones get tired because of daily travel.

One of my sister's daughters told me that she does not like to go to the nursery because she want to play with her little brother and also she likes to watch cartoons.

On the other hand, sending children to primary school at proper age have more advantages. They can easily tolerate the things happen in the school. They can easily build up good relationships and can learn new things easily.

In conclusion, I think sending children to preschool at their young age is a better option than day care centers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear opinion that preschool has more advantages, and you mention relevant points such as learning through songs and games, making friends, and parents not needing separate childcare. However, the discussion is uneven: the disadvantages of preschool receive little explanation, while the paragraph about starting primary school later is brief and does not clearly compare the two choices. The anecdote about your niece adds a personal example, but it mainly illustrates reluctance to attend rather than developing the wider argument. The response is 218 words, so it is 32 words below the 250-word minimum; 41 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop both sides with specific reasons and examples, and explain your conclusion more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

Your response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main sections. However, progression within the discussion is limited: the first body paragraph moves quickly from social benefits to childcare and then to tiredness, without clearly grouping or explaining these points. The second body paragraph is very short, so the comparison feels incomplete, and the niece’s example appears as a separate paragraph rather than being connected to the disadvantage it supports. Use clearer topic sentences, link each example to its point, and build a more balanced sequence of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate basic ideas, including “preschool,” “teachers,” “good manners,” “abilities,” and “relationships.” Some phrases also attempt to express specific concepts, such as “limited time to stay home with their family members.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, or collocation errors make the writing less natural, including “openion,” “Youngers,” “emprove,” and “day cares.” Repetition of “easily” and “advantages” also restricts variety. Build a more accurate set of phrases for early education, social development, and family time, and check spelling and natural word combinations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main meaning using mostly simple sentences and make some attempts to combine ideas with “because” and “but.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, “sending children to preschool … have” should use a singular verb, and “she want to play” should be “she wants to play.” There are also problems with articles and sentence patterns, as in “because nursery are safer” and “the things happen in the school.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and article use, then combine related ideas into longer sentences while keeping the grammar controlled.
