Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, preschool has become increasingly commoin in many parts of the world. While this development offers several benefits, it also has some drawbacks. This essay will discuss the main advantages and disadvantages of this trend.

To begin with, there are several advantages of send children to preschool when they are three or four years old. One of the main benefits is that children can make friends and communicate with others. This is because children can feel confident, learn from playable activities and children can develop basic knowledge language. For example, one of my neighbours child joining preschool, he is very confident speak with others people. Therefore, kindergarden and preschool can provide more facilities, children can spend whole day their. Moreover, preschool routines can set according to children habits. As a result, children can grow better than other children.

On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages of some parents wait until their children are old enough for primary school before they send them to school. Firstly, one major drawback is developning some basic skills. For example, children who directly go to school, they might feel some dificulties to follow routines and teaching habits. Consequently, children progress slow that's affect their basic development. Moreover, some parents believe that preschool can affect their freedom. Thus, these negative effects should not be ignored.

In conclusion, pre school has both advantages and disadvantages. Although it provides benefits such as learning new things. it can cause problems such as freedom. In my opinion, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks if childen can attend preschool.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both advantages and disadvantages and give a clear, though brief, opinion that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Relevant points include making friends, building confidence, learning basic skills, and possible effects on children’s freedom. However, several ideas are unclear or insufficiently explained: for instance, “preschool routines can set according to children habits” does not show how this benefits children, and the disadvantage about freedom is not supported with an example. The response also contains 231 words, so it is 19 words below the required minimum; 28 words copied from the prompt were not counted. This limits the development of your discussion. Explain each point more fully and use specific examples to address the task more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, the neighbour’s experience is followed by “Therefore” and a claim about preschool facilities, but the relationship between these points is not established. The disadvantage paragraph also begins by restating the prompt rather than clearly introducing the drawbacks. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, then connect explanations and examples directly; vary linking devices and make references such as “these negative effects” more specific.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “communicate,” “confident,” “routines,” “basic skills,” and “development.” This gives you enough language to convey the general subject and distinguish benefits from drawbacks. However, the range is limited, and noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “commoin,” “playable activities,” “kindergarden,” and “progress slow.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “provide more facilities” and “affect their freedom.” Build a more accurate set of expressions for early learning and social development, and check spelling and collocations. More precise wording would help you explain your ideas without relying on broad or unclear phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a contrast clause beginning “While this development offers…” and a conditional in the conclusion. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “there are several advantages of send children” has an incorrect verb form, while “one of my neighbours child joining preschool, he is very confident speak” lacks a clear sentence structure and accurate verb forms. Other examples include “children can spend whole day their” and “if childen can attend preschool.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, possessives, agreement, and verb patterns. Accurate simple sentences should come before adding more complex structures.
