Student answer (Band 5.5)

Huge quantity of food and beverage items made contains extreme level of sugar, which could damage our health. So government should improse tax on purchasing of high level of sugary products and these items should be made expensive enough to encourage people to shift. I compelety agree with this perspective because authorities should take action on high quantity of products containing sugar and should impose legislation on manufacturers. Government should take action on manufacturers to make product expensive and must be out of range for families to offord.

High level of sugar containing products like soft drink (pepsi, 7up, marenda, dew) could be harmful for us. Pan cake and other type of cakes also contain huge sugar which could cause dramatic effect in our healths. By drinking too much drinks and eating sweet cakes cause serious health issues like heart diease, increase in body fat and other diseses. For example, in Pakistan people often love to drink and eat sugary items but they dont even know it could cause heart failure and sugar problems. In Pakistan, sugar is most common disease and many citizens suffer from this problem.

In contrast, if government impose taxes on manufaturers then automatically company owners will rise the prices of thier products and this would be out of range for middle class families to buy sugary product. Furthermore, the interest for people will shift toward to buy healthy products like fruits and vegetables. For instance, in Brazil government impose tax on sugary product so citizens attitudes shifts towards healthy items.

In conclusion, I agree with this point because sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar and should be avoided by any kind of disease.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that sugary products should cost more, and the response stays focused on health effects and taxation. You give relevant examples, including soft drinks and cakes, and explain that higher prices could encourage families to choose fruit and vegetables. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that sugary products are “out of range” for middle-class families does not explain why this group is the intended focus, and the Brazil example needs more detail or support to show how the tax changed behaviour. Develop the reasoning behind the policy and acknowledge a possible limitation, such as the effect on lower-income consumers, to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction stating your view, two body paragraphs covering health harms and taxation, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “In contrast” does not introduce a contrasting idea; the paragraph continues to support taxation. The movement from health problems in Pakistan to the proposed tax could also be made more explicit. Some references, such as “this problem,” are vague, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing the main reasons together. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “impose tax,” “manufacturers,” “heart failure,” and “healthy products,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “middle class families” and “citizens’ attitudes.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated general words such as “products,” “sugar,” and “problem,” as well as inaccurate word choices and collocations. Phrases such as “extreme level of sugar,” “dramatic effect in our healths,” and “the interest for people will shift” are not natural in this context. Spelling errors, including “improse,” “offord,” and “diseses,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise health and policy terms, and check spelling and common word partnerships.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional idea about what may happen if taxes are imposed and a relative clause in “which could damage our health.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, some sentence patterns are faulty, and errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and plurals. For example, “food and beverage items made contains” has an incorrect verb construction, while “By drinking too much drinks and eating sweet cakes cause” lacks a clear grammatical subject. “If government impose taxes” also needs a correctly formed subject–verb pattern. Practise building accurate sentences with subordinate clauses and gerunds, and check agreement and article use before submitting. More reliable control of these structures would make the argument easier to follow.
