Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 108 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you state your opinion that sugary products have a harmful impact, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. You mention the strategy of increasing prices, but you do not provide sufficient reasoning or examples to support this argument. To improve, you must expand your response by providing detailed explanations, counter-arguments, and concrete examples to meet the minimum length requirement and fully explore the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction, body paragraphs, or conclusion. The sentences are somewhat disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal or absent. For example, the transition between the health issues and the proposed solution is abrupt. To improve, you should organize your ideas into distinct paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence, and use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') to connect your ideas logically and improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You use simple terms like 'things' and 'a lot of', which lack the precision required for an academic essay. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'cheap rats' (likely meaning 'cheap rates'). To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including topic-specific terms related to health, economics, and government policy, and ensure that your word choices are accurate and appropriate for a formal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'a large amount of sugar in it. which are causing', and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters and improper sentence fragments. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct punctuation and subject-verb agreement, and then work on incorporating more complex sentence structures like relative clauses and conditional sentences.
