Student answer (Band 7.0)
There may arise multitude of complications and diseases in people due to consuming food or drink products with too much sugar levels. A proposal to combat this issue is to increase the price of such items to deter consumers' purchases.
While this is a decent solution, most customers' may still buy these unhealthy products, contributing to many reasons that enables them to keep this lifestyle.
First, there is the possibility that many of the people who buy the sugary foods cannot afford healthier produces, such as those grown on farms, because the alternatives may be out of their budget. Moreover, consumers could just choose problematic foods as such products are, most of the time, more convenient and accessible than less health-damaging ones. This kind of behavior can especially be seen in low income households and neighborhoods all around the globe. Prevalence of affordable and ubiquitous food stalls and restaurants that sell these overly sweet products also contribute to the problem at hand.
Another reason is the difficulty of changing one's habits while most of the technologies is created to cater to our needs and wants. There are plenty of ways a person can utilize to do various types of jobs or activities without leaving their room. Among these, the number one method people use to be idle is ordering foods through delivery applications. And since most prominent places on such applications are fast food franchises selling unhealthy food with high-sugar levels, consumers, used to their comfortable bubbles, find it hard to switch their way of eating. In addition to this, many people sometimes do not have the desire or motivation to make a drastic change with their lives; the individuals, accustomed to their way of living, keep on choosing their old habits even if such practices can harm them.
In conclusion, most families from less privileged backgrounds do not have the option to make healthy decisions, but instead they have to rely on cheaper products. Even among those who have the means to make the correct choices, some might be either too idle or stubborn to make the necessary changes to improve their well beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the proposed tax on sugary products. You clearly state your position that price increases are insufficient due to socioeconomic factors and habit-driven behavior. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the accessibility of fast food and the constraints on low-income households. However, the development could be more balanced; while you explain why the tax might fail, you could further explore the potential benefits or counter-arguments to provide a more comprehensive view. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a clear position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as economic constraints in the first body paragraph and behavioral habits in the second. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In addition to this', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother in places. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'deter consumers' purchases', 'ubiquitous food stalls', and 'less privileged backgrounds' show an ability to use less common items. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'healthier produces' (produce is an uncountable noun) and 'technologies is created' (subject-verb agreement). Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication, allowing for a clear expression of your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'There may arise multitude' (missing article), 'most customers' may' (incorrect apostrophe usage), and 'technologies is' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede the reader's understanding of your points. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct article usage. The variety of structures is sufficient, but more consistent accuracy in complex sentences is needed.
