Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of taxing sugary products. You provide relevant examples, such as the tax in Mexico and the industry response in the UK, which support your argument. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, and some points are under-developed. For instance, the link between price increases and health outcomes is stated but could be explained with more depth regarding consumer behavior. To improve, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-explained point rather than restating the same premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'For instance', 'In addition', and 'To sum up' to connect ideas. However, the flow within sentences is often hindered by grammatical errors, making the progression feel mechanical at times. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'They appreciate for using less amount of sugar food', where the subject 'They' is ambiguous. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun references would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey your meaning, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'high amount', 'product', and 'sugar'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'reding consumer' (likely meaning reducing consumption) and 'banned sugar contain beverages'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and improve the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb forms ('Many product have'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('In making of sugar product have high amount of price'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impact the readability of the essay. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and building more complex, error-free sentences.
