Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, many foods and drinks contain a lot of sugar. Eating too much sugar can cause many health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. Some people believe that sugary products should be more expensive to reduce their consumption. Suger is not better for health. I agree with this opinion because it can help people become healthier.
Firstly, when the price of sugary products increases, people usually buy them less. Many people cannot afford expensive products, so they will think before buying soft drinks, chocolates, and candies. Instead, they may choose healthier drinks like water or fresh juice. For example, if a bottle of soft drink becomes more expensive, many students will buy water instead. As a result, they will consume less sugar.
Secondly, eating less sugar can improve public health. It can reduce the number of people who suffer from obesity and diabetes. This will also reduce the pressure on hospitals and doctors. In addition, the government can collect extra money from sugar taxes and use it to improve hospitals and run health awareness campaigns. For instance, this money can be spent on building new hospitals or educating people about healthy eating.
In my opinion I prefer that sugary things are made on high prices. Majority of people's often less this habit and also save their health. It is a better idea and also helpful for our government.
In conclusion, I agree that sugary products should be made more expensive. Higher prices can reduce sugar consumption, encourage healthier choices, and improve public health. Therefore, I believe this is a good way to solve many health problems caused by too much sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your agreement, such as the economic impact on consumption and the potential for government revenue to fund health initiatives. The ideas are extended with logical examples, such as students choosing water over soft drinks. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are developed with more depth; for instance, you could discuss potential counter-arguments or the long-term societal implications of such a tax policy to demonstrate a more sophisticated level of critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and you use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and use more sophisticated referencing (e.g., 'This fiscal measure' instead of repeating 'this money'). The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'obesity', 'diabetes', and 'awareness campaigns'. However, there are some minor spelling errors ('Suger') and awkward phrasing, such as 'sugary things are made on high prices'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Instead of 'sugary things', use 'sugar-laden products' or 'high-sugar commodities'. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific academic collocations will help you move into the higher band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'Majority of people's often less this habit' and 'sugary things are made on high prices'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. While you attempt complex sentences, they are not always error-free. Increasing your control over complex structures and proofreading for minor slips will significantly enhance your score in this criterion.
