Student answer (Band 5.5)

Currently world is facing diabetic health problem, many think that food and drink containing high sugar product should be made more expansive which will led to less consumption of sugary product. In this essay we will discuss whether to take this step or not.

To begin with, currently 1 out of 3 persons is diabetic, which is considered a slow poison for human being. Every product line currently has one or more product containing high sugar count, it can be soft drink or any food item. In addition, many consumers are not even concern about high level of sugar count present in their food or drink. As an example, Coco cola is one of the most well-known soft drink brands on the earth and most sugar contain drink brand as well, it contains more than 150 grams sugar in one soft drink can.

To continue with, sugar is also called a slow poison as it eats human body from inside. Moreover, there are many nature substitutes for sugar like jiggery or stevia which test same as sugar but cause no threat to human being. So, it is better to replace sugar with nature substitute in all product. As an example, Coca cola the same brand making one of the highest sugar soft drink also sell zero sugar drink called ‘zero sugar coca cola’

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to serge the prices of sugar contain product rather then that people themselves can replace products with one containing nature sweeteners and cut the conception of high sugar food or beverages.

In conclusion, it not viable to serge the prices of sugary product or not doing anything at all. There should be an alertness among people how to and what to consume.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the proposal to increase prices on sugary products. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a clear stance, the arguments regarding 'natural substitutes' are not fully linked to the core question of whether price increases are an effective policy tool. The essay tends to over-generalize, such as the claim that '1 out of 3 persons is diabetic,' which lacks factual accuracy and weakens the argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph directly supports your position on the specific policy proposed rather than drifting into general health advice.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is occasionally disjointed. While you use transition signals like 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion,' some of these are used mechanically. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the health risks of sugar and the mention of Coca-Cola feels abrupt. The conclusion is also slightly repetitive and does not effectively summarize the main points of the argument. Improving the flow between sentences would help the reader follow your reasoning more easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'expansive' instead of 'expensive,' 'serge' instead of 'surge,' and 'nature' instead of 'natural.' These errors occasionally hinder the clarity of your message. You rely on basic terminology and struggle to incorporate more sophisticated or academic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations correctly and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to public health and economic policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many think that food... should be made'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'sugar contain product'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips will be beneficial.
