Student answer (Band 5.0)
Yes i agree with it, because nowadays sugar is very cheap so people can easily purchase it and consume it and the food manufacturers will also add lot of sugar to the products because it is cheap and easily blend with the products so the authorities should make the sugar and the products containing sugar expensive so people should think before buying the product and sugar, due to consumption of sugar at daily bases is not healthy it is harmful for the health most of the people are not aware of this so there were awareness programs for the people were they get to know about the disadvantages of the consumption of sugar the drinks which they drink on daily bases it contains lot of sugar which is harmful for the health so this kind of drinks should get expensive so people cant afford them easily, As i have seen the people who consume lot of products which contains sugar are having heart diseases, diabetes, blood pressure, lot of fat in the body , not having activeness in the body looks dull all the time and i think this is not the way people should live they should take care of there health eat healthy products minimize the consumption of sugar, and the organizations should make the products expensive which contain sugar so people will consume those kink of products less and the peoples health will be better i also consume sugar very less and keep my self active and healthy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of increasing taxes on sugary products. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health consequences like diabetes and heart disease, the arguments are presented in a repetitive, list-like fashion rather than being fully extended. The response lacks a formal structure, such as an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which prevents a logical flow of ideas. To improve, you should organize your thoughts into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific reason or example, and ensure that your points are supported with more depth and analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single, long paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of logical progression between ideas; the text relies heavily on run-on sentences and lacks appropriate cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition') to link sentences and clauses. Referencing is also weak, as the text jumps between topics like health awareness and economic policy without clear transitions. To improve, you must use paragraphing to separate your introduction, main arguments, and conclusion, and use a wider variety of linking words to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple words like 'cheap', 'harmful', 'products', and 'sugar'. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS essay. Phrases like 'not having activeness in the body' and 'looks dull' are imprecise and unnatural. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'fiscal policy', 'public health initiatives', 'detrimental', or 'mitigate', and focus on using more precise collocations to express your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response consists almost entirely of run-on sentences connected by 'and' or 'because', with a lack of punctuation. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('there were awareness programs'), incorrect word forms ('daily bases' instead of 'daily basis'), and missing articles. The range of grammatical structures is very limited; there is an absence of complex sentences or varied clause structures. To improve, focus on using full stops to separate independent thoughts, and practice using complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to add variety and accuracy to your writing.
