Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the proposal to tax sugary products. You present a partially balanced view, acknowledging both the role of companies and the responsibility of individuals. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding 'Red Bull' is underdeveloped and lacks a clear connection to the broader economic policy being discussed. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained point with more specific, logical reasoning rather than just stating opinions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'Thus' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between company pricing and consumer behavior is disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'sugar', 'products', 'companies', and 'individuals'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'made extreme expensive' instead of 'significantly increased in price'. Additionally, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'suger', 'rerely', 'healty') that, while not always impeding communication, demonstrate a lack of control over more complex vocabulary. Focus on learning collocations and synonyms to avoid repetitive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is a significant issue. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'companies not require to made'), article usage, and sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced commas and missing capitalization. These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally cause the reader to pause to decipher the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like verb tense and pluralization before moving on to more complex grammar.
