Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, consumption of manufactured food and drink is very high on demand which cause many health related issues because of high levels of sugar. 'Hiking price of these products can control it's consumption'-this thought can work but not for all the consumer. In this following essay i will discuss possible reasons and solution for it.

For manufactured or packaged foods and drinks young children and teens are main and biggest larger consumer, that doesn't mean that people of other age group doesn't contain it. As these food items are high in sugar increasing price of these items can work but for limited consumers. Middle class and lower class community could affected by this step as they can not afford it. Market demand could be dropped down because of higher rate of these products due to this reason production gets lower, which controls the flow of these type of product in the market. Hiking price can also save money from middle and lower class community as they meet with lesser health related issues. Children and teens can start consuming healthier food or alternatives.

Adding in it this ideas works at some extent but people who want to consume it, will consume it at any cost. Type of idea doesn't affect higher class community. If the production gets lower then the factories related to it could be shut-down which results in to unemployment for poor family.

To conclude, hiking price is not the proper solution. Government should organize proper food awareness programs to avoid the consumption of high sugary food and should make some rules and regulation for production.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the proposal to increase the price of sugary products. You clearly state your position that price hikes are not the ideal solution, which is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that price increases might affect lower-income families, the argument could be strengthened with more specific examples or a deeper exploration of the socio-economic impact. The conclusion introduces new ideas, such as government awareness programs, which should have been integrated into the body paragraphs to provide a more balanced and cohesive argument. Overall, the response is relevant but lacks the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Adding in it this ideas' is awkward and lacks clarity. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel a bit abrupt. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this step', 'it') is always precise and clear to the reader.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'manufactured food', 'consumption', and 'production'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'high on demand' instead of 'in high demand' and 'Hiking price' instead of 'Increasing the price'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'meet with lesser health related issues'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations and idiomatic expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people of other age group doesn't contain it'), article usage ('the middle class and lower class community'), and punctuation errors. Additionally, some sentences are awkwardly constructed, such as 'this thought can work but not for all the consumer'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
