Student answer (Band 6.0)

Processed food has become a major toll on public health in todays fast paced world. Most of the food and drink products consist of high levels of sugar which ultimately deteriorates health of people. Although increasing the rates of these products might lessen the consumption, it could not be considered as the only solution to this problem.

Manufactured eatables has very high amount of fats and sugars that on daily consumption leads to severe health problems such as diabetes and high cholesterol levels. These products are mainly promoted by their low prices and highly appealing advertising. For example, people watching the ads buy the products as it is convenient by price and tasty. However, with time they fall into this cycle of unhealthy and overeating being unaware obout how it is affecting their body.

Making these sugary products expensive might help the crowd to hesitate while purchasing it and eating less of those.

But, there are sides to this problem too. High sugar consumption is also due to lack of awareness. People are generally ignorant about mentioned ingredients on the packaged food. Maximum amount of people do not even take a look on these details on the packaging material like amount of sugar, oils or additives involved. As a solution to it government and institutes like FSO and FSSAI should organize campaigns and seminars to spread awareness among the citizens and prevent health related problems from arising in the society.

Hence, although I agree that inflating the prices of manufactured food and drink products can lead to a notable decrease in its consumption, it cannot be considered as the sole solution to the problem and should be accompanied with high awareness for ones well being.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task. You have taken a clear position, agreeing that price increases are a valid strategy while arguing that they are not the sole solution. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, particularly the point about consumer ignorance regarding ingredients. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more specific; for instance, instead of mentioning 'FSO and FSSAI' generally, you could briefly explain how a specific type of government-led campaign has succeeded elsewhere. The development is balanced, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes your main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'Although,' 'However,' and 'Hence' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'there are sides to this problem too,' which is a bit vague. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the response. Improving the variety of linking phrases would further enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'deteriorates,' 'appealing advertising,' and 'inflating the prices.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'major toll on public health' (usually 'takes a toll') and 'unaware obout' (spelling error). You also use 'manufactured eatables,' which is slightly unnatural; 'processed food products' is more standard. While you attempt less common vocabulary, the precision is not consistently high enough for a higher band. Focusing on natural collocations will help.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show control over basic grammar, but there are frequent minor errors, such as 'in todays fast paced world' (missing apostrophe), 'consist of high levels' (should be 'contain'), and 'Maximum amount of people' (should be 'The majority of people'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as ensuring punctuation like apostrophes is used consistently.
