Student answer (Band 6.0)
In comtemporary society, it has been seen that consumable products both food and drinks are made up of increase level of sugar which can be harmful to health. However, people are of the opinion that food and drink products that contain high amount of sugar should be made expensive in order for it to be taken in a small quantity. In my opinion, I completely agree with this because it will help improve health and physical wellbeing. These points will be explained in the following paragraphs with relevant examples and a logical conclusion made.
To begin with, most of the food human consumes are made up of inappropriate glucose which can result in health problems like diabetes due to abnormal deposits of sugar in the bloodstream and body tissues. When individuals can actually afford to purchase these food, there is consequently increase in consumption hence the need to make them expensive. This will ensure low purchase, and reduced consumption thereby preventing health risks. For instance, an individual can come down with diabetes when they consume sugary foods and drinks for an extended period of time especially when there is a genetic predisposition to diabetes. Hence the need to limit access to these foods sources.
Furthermore, there will be an increase in the physical wellbeing of people. With sugar containing junk foods reduced, people can go for other types of food that can greatly improve their general wellbeing like more of proteins, vitamins and vegetables, thus preventing them from being overweight. For example, James, resulting to eating homemade food of beans because he had no money to buy junk products anymore.
In conclusion, sugar from consumable foods arnd drinks can be harmful, however the increase in prices with help ensure reduction in health conditions like diabetes and ensure a healthy physical wellbeing of people, thereby leading to a greater healthy population.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of increasing prices on sugary products. The main ideas—health risks and the promotion of healthier alternatives—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. The example provided about 'James' is anecdotal and lacks the depth required for a high-band response. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more sophisticated reasoning or broader societal examples. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level, which is characteristic of a band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some of the linking is mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'When individuals can actually afford to purchase these food'. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more varied and sophisticated cohesive links to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'genetic predisposition', 'bloodstream', and 'physical wellbeing'. However, there are also some inaccuracies and unnatural collocations, such as 'inappropriate glucose' (instead of 'excessive sugar') and 'increase level of sugar'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and the reliance on simpler word choices prevent it from reaching a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, though 'arnd' is a minor slip.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('most of the food human consumes' should be 'consume') and article usage errors ('increase in consumption' should be 'an increase'). Punctuation is mostly functional, but some sentences are clunky. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and errors are noticeable throughout the text, although they do not significantly impede communication. This level of control is consistent with band 6.0.
