Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, some people believe manufactured food and drink products which contain sugar that might cause different health problems whereas, other thinks sugary products should be made more expensive which encourage people to consume less.
I totally agree with this statement because the more it gets expensive, the less it is used. Everyone loves sugar and we hardly find people who don't like sugar. For example, if there is a drink available with zero sugar, people still prefer to choose the sugar one. For me, I like my tea with sugar because I don't find any taste with sugar in it. I know it will affect me in lung run but still I am loving it cause I am addicted to it and afford it. I think I could have controlled my habit of taking tea if it was expensive because as an international student there are so many things where ,I can spend in.
Sugar intake might cause different health disease like diabetese. Nowadays, people with diabetese are increasing day day day because they consume excessive sugar into their food. Also, it can affect their mental health because they are addicted to it. They can control it at the time so they should be provided with some awareness about the drawbacks of it. I strongly believe the increase in price might help somehow in this situation, but at the same time I feel people should equally support in it and should understand about this strategy.
In conclusion, the price increment in products containing sugar is totally good idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health issues like diabetes and the economic impact on students, the arguments lack depth and academic rigor. For instance, the personal anecdote about tea consumption is a bit informal and does not fully explore the broader societal implications of a 'sugar tax.' To improve, ensure that your supporting points are more analytical rather than purely descriptive, and provide more robust reasoning for why price increases would effectively curb consumption across different demographics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Nowadays' is used repetitively at the start of paragraphs, and the connection between sentences is sometimes abrupt. The concluding sentence is very brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good idea' and 'different health problems.' There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'diabetese' (spelling error: diabetes) and 'day day day' (repetition). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to public health policy and economics, and pay closer attention to spelling and the correct usage of collocations to convey your ideas more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other thinks'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'spend in'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'I don't find any taste with sugar in it'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction, to ensure your writing is more polished.
