Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the proposed tax. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding economic loss is repetitive and lacks specific, logical evidence to support the claim that a tax would cause significant national economic decline. The points regarding government awareness campaigns are somewhat disconnected from the core issue of whether a tax is an effective tool for health improvement. To improve, you should focus on providing more logical, step-by-step explanations for your arguments and ensure that your examples directly support your main position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some linking words are used (e.g., 'The first reason', 'Morever', 'In conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not effectively connect the sentences. For example, the transition between the economic argument and the health awareness suggestion is abrupt. Referencing is also problematic; phrases like 'Due to it' and 'As a health' are unclear in their meaning, which makes the flow of the argument difficult to follow. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring each sentence logically follows the previous one is essential.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and often inaccurate, which hinders the clarity of your message. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'purchased it' instead of 'purchasing them', 'cresis' (crisis), and 'compaign regard of health'. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology related to economics and public health. Expanding your vocabulary through reading academic texts will help you use words more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The number of companies make'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'would not be purchased'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'As a health, citizen can improve their health'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing spaces. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. You need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
