Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, sugar has been major debatable discussion. Although some think it causes many health issues and other believe their are many other alternatives to sugar.I personally believe sugar intake should be reduced to have healthy life.

On the one hand, many individuals drinking cool drinks and having more sweets will have many health probems like obesity, daibetes, cholesterol, fatty liver, lifestyle disorders and cardiac problems and many more.

As there are many disadvantages to sugar consumption it can disturb us mentally and physical by weightgain acne and cavities in childrens. It is dangerous to our body to consume more sugar in our day to day life.

On the other hand, some believe that there are many alternatives for sugary drinks like diet cook and zero sugar drinks. Furthermore there are wide variteis of sugar avaialbale in market nowadays like Stevia ,Monk fruit sugar and Maple syrup these can be used as they have less glycemic index value in comparison regular white and brown sugars. For instance, my cousins make healthy drinks and sweets replaced the regular sugar with monkfruit sugar to satisfy their children and family members sweettooth.

In conclusion, by raising the price of sugary products does not stop them from having sugarly foods better advising them to use other options like Stevia so, that atleast they protect them high blood sugar spikes. In addition creating awareness in children in younger age about health issues of all these foods and encouraging them to take homemade jucies and snacks can atleast protect further generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt, but the development is uneven. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the argument regarding the price increase is somewhat neglected in the body paragraphs. You focus heavily on the health risks of sugar and alternative sweeteners rather than directly debating the effectiveness of the proposed tax. The conclusion introduces a new argument against the price increase, which should have been integrated into the body paragraphs for better development. To reach a higher band, ensure that each part of the prompt—the health issues and the specific solution of increasing prices—is explored in balanced detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'In conclusion, by raising the price of sugary products does not stop them' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'them' in the conclusion, which lacks a clear antecedent. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'glycemic index' and 'lifestyle disorders'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'probems', 'daibetes', 'variteis', 'avaialbale', 'jucies') and some word choice issues, such as 'major debatable discussion' instead of 'a subject of debate'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes and expanding your use of collocations to sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'other believe their are many other alternatives' (should be 'others believe there are'), 'disturb us mentally and physical' (should be 'mentally and physically'), and 'atleast they protect them high blood sugar' (should be 'at least they protect themselves from'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors limits the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction.
