Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing agreement with the idea of taxing sugary products. However, the development is very limited. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth, focusing primarily on listing unhealthy foods rather than exploring the economic or social implications of the proposed tax. The response fails to provide a structured argument, and the conclusion introduces new, albeit relevant, suggestions that were not previously discussed. The ideas are under-developed, and the response lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band score. To improve, you should focus on explaining 'why' and 'how' a tax would influence consumer behavior, rather than simply listing unhealthy items.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with ideas jumping between health problems and general advice without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, leading to a repetitive and disjointed flow. For example, the use of 'and' to connect long, run-on sentences makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, you should use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas, and ensure each paragraph focuses on one clear, central theme.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Words like 'products', 'drinks', 'healthy', and 'dangerous' are used frequently without variation. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'using drinking coke' and 'stomach is completely destroyed'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and there is a reliance on simple, everyday language. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'fiscal policy', 'public health initiatives', 'nutritional value', or 'consumption patterns'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and comma splices. Punctuation is inconsistent, and there are errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'doctor recomanded to use'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practicing the use of complex sentences with subordinate clauses.
