Student answer (Band 6.5)
Various health problems are mainly caused by intake of processed foods and beverages that contain high levels of sugar. By escalating the price of sugary products, it can encourage people to consume less, which I strongly agree since it benefits more to the community's health and savings.
The consumption of manufactured foods and drinks are very common to all individuals of different ages especially children since they contain high level of sugar, furthermore they are very convenient to purchase in any store or marketplace. Intake of too much sugar is the main cause of unhealthy lifestyle that leads to diabetes and other health problems.
A price escalation on sugary products will lower the number of consumers, and they may be able to change their lifestyle by investing more on healthy products such as fruits and vegetables. Since there would be inflation, they will learn how to prioritize their needs instead of wants. I agree with the view on price escalation to sugary products, however it should be considered that people can still manage to buy them since they are still accessible around the market, therefore officials in the healthcare system should advocate a program regarding the effects of consuming sugary products and that they should improve their lifestyle by including exercising and discipline in controlling their intake of foods with high sugar and fats.
In conclusion, I agree to the view that increasing the price of manufactured products can encourage people to consume less, however government officials should also advocate the effects to their health since people can still buy them everywhere.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the health benefits and the economic impact of price increases. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument that people will 'prioritize their needs instead of wants' is a good point but could be further extended with specific examples of how such a tax might function in practice. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it repeats the idea of accessibility mentioned earlier. Overall, the response is well-focused, but more depth in the supporting arguments would elevate the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, moving from the problem to the proposed solution and then to a balanced consideration of the limitations. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'furthermore', 'however', and 'in conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be tighter to improve the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'escalating', 'inflation', and 'advocate'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'benefits more to the community's health' (should be 'benefits the community's health more') and 'accessible around the market' (which is slightly unnatural). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'which I strongly agree since' (missing 'with'), 'consumption of manufactured foods and drinks are' (subject-verb agreement error: 'is'), and 'advocate a program regarding the effects' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved with better use of commas or semicolons. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
