Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, some individuals believe that major production of foods and beverages add a huge amount of sugar, which impacts multiple health issues. Others believe that an increment in the price, which people can't afford these products and consumption will be decreased significantly. This trend has become increasingly common and has attracted significant public attention. It has become a topic of widespread debate due to its impact on individuals and society. This essay will discuss why I am on the agree side.

To commence, I believe that the government should introduce policies for products contain high levels of sugar. This is because consuming excessive amount of sugary food lead to various diseases such as high blood pressure, sugar and diabetes. In other words, excessive consumption of sugary food can increase the risk of developing these diseases. However, price increase is not a good option, yet it will be beneficial for lower middle class and low-income people protect themselves from these health problems but some individuals can afford these products and they may suffer from these issues. As a result, it may impact individuals and society in the long term.

Furthermore, another reason is that the higher authority can introduce sugar tax and sometime people encourage from these policies and sometime they consume less amount of sugar products. Moreover, there should be strict rule for food labelling customer will know the real truth of that product and afterwards customer will take the decision to purchase or not. In European countries, there is a huge amount of fine if products packaging have misleading information.

In my opinion, some strategies should be implemented by the government to introduce strict laws for these products such as right labelling on front of the products and sugar tax will be implemented for consumer, so they might be concern for their health and money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the proposed policy. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you mention health risks and taxation, the argument in the second paragraph becomes slightly contradictory when you state that 'price increase is not a good option' despite agreeing with the premise. To improve, ensure your supporting points consistently reinforce your main position. Some ideas, such as the mention of food labeling, are relevant but could be more deeply explored to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and you use some cohesive devices like 'To commence', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the sentence 'price increase is not a good option, yet it will be beneficial'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, and the connection between the idea of 'misleading information' in Europe and the main argument about sugar tax could be smoother. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would help the essay progress more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumption', 'widespread debate', and 'implemented'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'major production of foods' instead of 'mass production' or 'high levels of sugar', and 'sugar and diabetes' where 'sugar' is used incorrectly as a disease. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic terminology, and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'some individuals' and 'these products'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'products contain high levels' should be 'products containing high levels', and 'sometime people encourage from these policies' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction and verb forms.
