Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of increasing taxes on sugary products. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between sugar and diabetes, and the mention of government intervention. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of how taxes would change behavior is a bit simplistic, and the argument could be strengthened by discussing potential counter-arguments or more nuanced economic impacts. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of analysis is consistent with a Band 6, as some points are under-developed and rely on generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the health impacts to the proposed solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive and mechanical. For example, the phrase 'due to which' is used excessively and incorrectly in the first and second paragraphs, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of variety and occasional misuse of linking words prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'insulin level', 'carbonated drinks', and 'type-2 diabetes'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'take injection on the regular base' instead of 'regular injections' and 'procure alternative things'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and the reliance on basic phrasing limit the score to a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('it effects many health issues'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('because of that nowadays people are suffering'). The frequent use of 'due to which' as a conjunction is grammatically incorrect and makes the sentences clunky. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents a higher score.
