Student answer (Band 6.0)

The prices of high content sugar products should be charged heavily so as to stop people 's consumption since taking it is hazardous to health. To a lesser extent l agree with the notion, because it not the ultimate solution. However, one can point out that there is need for a smarter way to persuade the people not to eat such kind of products which is educating the masses

It can be argued that food that has oscullate sugar content should be charged extraordinary so, that less people will opt to buy. For instance, here on Zimbabwe the economy is like Rollercoaster so it will reduce the consumption for such products among citizens. As a result health and well-being of citizens is improved. Hence, prevention is better than cure.

However, one might argued that it is futile to raise money but educating the community about the harmful effects of consuming such products. That solely will quell an individual to make the right decision. As we all know that knowledge is power .For example if one knows that something brought more harm than good he or she will stop, as a result.

In the same vein, skyrocketing the prices of what people will eat is not the ultimate solution there is need to restrict the production of such products. Since, their disadvantages outweighs its disadvantages. For example, the manufacturing food such as sweets should be banned because it becomes a stumbling-block, for a parent to coerce their children not to eat them and these lures children even at schools. Hence, there is no doubt that the increase in prices of such product will be viable because there are other factors such as the above that will always incites people to eat.

In a nutshell, there is need for prices to increase so as to intrigue people to quit the eating of food that has intense sugar content. On the other hand, there is need for awareness campaigns to help people make the right decisions. On top of that, there is need to stop the production of huge quantity of sugar content food products. As a result , l agree will the notion to a lesser extent because it is not feasible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the proposed tax on sugary products and offering alternative solutions like education and production bans. While the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The argument regarding the economic situation in Zimbabwe is a relevant example, but the reasoning in the fourth paragraph is slightly contradictory, as it argues against the tax while simultaneously suggesting that production bans are necessary. The response covers all parts of the task, but some points, such as the effectiveness of education versus taxation, could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the same vein,' 'However,' and 'In a nutshell.' However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition 'As a result, l agree will the notion to a lesser extent.' Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, which occasionally makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved for better flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is adequate for the task but shows some limitations. There are instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'oscullate sugar content' (likely meant 'excessive'), 'charged extraordinary,' and 'incites people to eat' (where 'encourage' or 'tempt' would be more precise). While the student attempts to use more sophisticated vocabulary like 'stumbling-block' and 'skyrocketing,' these are sometimes used in contexts that feel slightly off. The errors do not generally impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('their disadvantages outweighs its disadvantages'), incorrect verb forms ('one might argued'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are structurally confusing, such as 'That solely will quell an individual to make the right decision.' While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band in this criterion.
