Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many health problems are being identified in people due to consumption of highly sweetened drinks and highly ultra-processed foods. One way to discourage consumers from eating this type of eateries would be increasing the cost of sugary items. However, i believe that this rule would impact some type of consumers but i also think that elected institutions should introduce other counter measures to discourage unhealthy eating. My reasons are explained further.

Firstly, the people who can afford the raised cost of products would still consume this unhealthy items, this will not deter them to stop. Some people believe that they want to consume such foods as they have the control over their life and would handle it's consequences. One such example, i can recall is that increase in cost of tobacco products did not stop people from buying it.

However, the governments should introduce healthy eating habits in preliminary schools that will help students learn the disadvantages of consuming such foods. Moreover, the governments should direct NGOs to conduct special drives and visit the communities to educate them about the sugary products and the health problems it introduces.

Additionally, hiking the prices would stop the under-privileged people to buy such products and governments making the healthy food items such as fruits, vegetables and lentils affordable will lead them to buy more such items, ultimately helping them too make a habit of eating healthy.

In conclusion, i can confidently reason that while increasing cost would deter some people from consuming , but educating and making healthy foods affordable would cause major changes in people eating habits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by providing a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. Your ideas, such as the comparison to tobacco taxes and the suggestion for educational initiatives, are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about under-privileged people could be expanded further to explain the socio-economic implications. The position is consistent throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the analysis of why price hikes might be ineffective for certain demographics. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to signal transitions between ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some of the linking is slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, in the second paragraph, 'this will not deter them to stop' is slightly awkward and could be better connected to the previous clause.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ultra-processed', 'deter', and 'counter measures'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'eateries' (which usually refers to a place, not the food itself) and 'it's consequences' (a grammatical error regarding the possessive 'its'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the control is not always consistent. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'this unhealthy items' (plural/singular agreement), 'it's consequences' (incorrect apostrophe), and 'too make a habit' (should be 'to'). Additionally, the sentence 'One such example, i can recall is that...' is slightly clunky. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
