Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a disagreement with the proposed solution, though the position is somewhat unclear due to linguistic errors. While you identify the health risks associated with sugar, the argument for alternative solutions (such as public awareness campaigns) is underdeveloped. The response lacks a clear, logical structure to support your stance, and some parts of the task—specifically the discussion of price increases—are not fully explored or addressed in a coherent manner. To improve, ensure you clearly state your position in the introduction and provide well-developed, distinct reasons for your opinion in each body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instant' (intended as 'For instance') and 'In conclusion', but they are often misused or placed incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. To improve, focus on using transition words more accurately and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates directly to your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'sugar', 'products', and 'health issues'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'highly used sugar' instead of 'use high levels of sugar' and 'useless sugar' instead of 'reduce sugar consumption'. These errors occasionally impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and focus on correct collocations, such as 'excessive consumption' or 'public health initiatives'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'some one argue that use sugar products used in very less' and 'they would be stop or band that kind of product'. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb-object patterns, and ensure consistent use of tenses before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
