Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most products that companies manufactures contains

large amount of sugar which is very risky for everyone who consumes it hence the government should increase the prices of that products to reduce people who consumes it.

I mostly agree with this idea of making products expensive, so people think before buying them. The idea is good, but it is not as easy as it seems to stop people from consuming sugary food. Because nowadays it has become their habit hence and they do not have enough alternatives of more healthier products which contains less amount of sugar.

Expensive prices of sugary food can reduce number of people who are consuming it because they will become less affordable for everyone, but in my opinion there are several reasons which are responsible for this problem like lack of self awareness in people towards their health and not having enough knowledge of how sugar can affect individual's health.

Hence, according to me, the government should not just only increase the prices of sugary products but they should also improve labeling of these products to acknowledge people about the risks of consuming sugary products. improve labeling like big letters of ingredients so people know about it and to increase their attention and also mention the risks and diseases these product causes it also helps to reduce number of people who eats theses food items.

Overall, in my opinion, the government should increase the prices of sugary items and also do more things like improving labeling to reduce consumers and promote healthier options because just high prices of these products alone are not enough.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited. You acknowledge the complexity of the issue by mentioning that price increases alone are insufficient and suggesting supplementary measures like better labeling. However, the arguments remain somewhat superficial. For example, you mention 'lack of self awareness' as a cause but do not fully explain how this interacts with the proposed price hikes. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of why price sensitivity might fail to change long-term habits. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of the argument is consistent with a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or mechanical. For instance, you start several sentences with 'Hence' or 'Because', which makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'that products', where the pronoun does not clearly link back to the previous noun phrase. While there is an overall logical progression, the transitions between your points could be smoother and more varied to improve the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'manufactured food', 'consume', and 'ingredients'. However, there is a lack of variety and precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'big letters' or 'do more things', which are not sophisticated. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'acknowledge people about the risks' (should be 'inform/warn people about') and 'these product causes it' (grammatically awkward). Expanding your range of academic vocabulary would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('companies manufactures', 'products contains'), article usage ('the government should increase the prices of that products'), and awkward phrasing ('reduce people who consumes it'). While your meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a highly effective way to improve your accuracy.
