Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the essay attempts to address the prompt regarding sugar taxation, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. The argument regarding the effectiveness of price increases is somewhat disjointed, and the suggestion of 'awareness programmes' is only briefly mentioned in the conclusion rather than being integrated into a coherent argument. The position is present but lacks the depth and logical support required for a higher band. The response is under-length, which restricts the ability to fully develop the points raised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with ideas jumping between health issues, children's habits, and the effectiveness of taxation without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical or incorrect way, such as the awkward use of 'However' and 'On conclusion'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The overall arrangement is disjointed, which hinders the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which occasionally causes confusion. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or non-standard collocations, such as 'bad craving towards an indudivals', 'imbalance the hamons problems', and 'happening on the daily basis of actions'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. Spelling errors are frequent (e.g., 'heath', 'indudivals', 'addictives', 'feature', 'childrens,s', 'carving', 'hamons'). These errors are noticeable and sometimes impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Basic errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Food products that contains', 'people has love'), article usage, and sentence construction are pervasive. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic comma usage and run-on sentences that make the text difficult to parse. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The high frequency of errors significantly impacts the readability of the response.
