Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly, the arguments are underdeveloped and rely on unsupported generalizations, such as the claim about Canada or the statistic regarding 2026. The task requires a more balanced and logical exploration of the prompt. Because the essay is under-length and the ideas are not fully extended or supported with relevant, accurate examples, the response does not fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Transitions are often mechanical or misused, such as 'To Begin with' and 'However', which do not always connect the ideas effectively. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the price of sugar and health outcomes is disjointed. The conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively summarize the main points or provide a final thought on the issue. Improved use of cohesive devices and clearer paragraph structure are needed to improve the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Numrous', 'suger', 'pople', 'citzen', and 'maney'. You rely on basic vocabulary, and the lack of precision makes it difficult to convey complex arguments. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'obesity', 'public health policy', 'fiscal measures') and ensure that words are spelled correctly and used in the appropriate context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'his body can not convert'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain run-on structures that lack proper punctuation. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and pluralization.
