Student answer (Band 6.0)

The sugar levels are high nowadays in many manufactured food and drink products available in the market which leads to many health related issues. It has been a serious issue in many countries. Some believe that sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. I strongly disagree with this notion and shall justify my opinion in the following paragraphs.

One point to support my argument is that making the price expensive of the products is not only the solution of it. It's like banning the vehicles due to high number of accident happening around the world. Many food and drinks products which contains high sugar are almost used as a daily life products in many people's life and by making the price higher will make the buyer thinkable whether to afford it or not, but can't convinced them not to buy the products. For instance; juice contains many healthy ingredients with the sugar too and many people drink it in their daily basis, so making the price higher will just reduced the sales by few percentage only.

Government should look for the alternative solution like organizing an awareness campaign and making people aware of its drawbacks. Teaching the people to buy the products looking after their labels only. Banning or making the price higher will impact the big companies investment only. We can go for the alternatives with the positive results for both the companies and the consumer too.

In conclusion, making price higher is the good option but it won't stop people to consumed the product so it's better to teach them with the awareness program and through other ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a comparison to vehicle accidents, the explanation of why price increases would be ineffective is underdeveloped. You mention that it would only reduce sales by a 'few percentage,' but you do not fully explore the economic or social implications of your alternative suggestion (awareness campaigns). To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully elaborated with more specific reasoning or illustrative examples rather than just stating the idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'One point to support my argument' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'making the price expensive of the products is not only the solution of it.' Additionally, the use of referencing could be improved to ensure smoother flow between sentences. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'manufactured food,' 'awareness campaign,' and 'drawbacks.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'making the price expensive' instead of 'increasing the price' or 'making products more expensive.' You also use 'thinkable' incorrectly in the context of affordability. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Many food and drinks products which contains high sugar'), incorrect verb forms ('it won't stop people to consumed'), and awkward phrasing ('looking after their labels only'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and work on consistent control of verb tenses and infinitive structures.
