Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many individuals think that most items of food and drink contain high level of sugar, which causes many health issues, and to control it increase the price more to encourage consumers to consume less sugar. I disagree with this statement because it is not only a preventive method instead of this state have to announce the awareness programs about the health problems to consume more sugar products and another is supply of sugar in limited amount under rules and regulations.
Of course, consume more sugar items cause serious health problems like diabetes, which is one of the top main disease, rather than made more expensive sugar, government have to look another best ways. The primary factor is awareness programs. State have to held the events in every cities because it provides the knowledge about the advantages and disadvantages of sugar. For example, this program helps to all the educated and uneducated once to know about high consume of sugar. However, people will know the value of sugar after the awareness events. By the help of this events it will not necessary to made sugar more expensive.
Another factor is supply sugar products in the limited amount and rules and regulations. If government made rules and regulations and supply in limit than people will save from health problems. For instance, if government made rules and regulations on the manufactured of food and drink than problems from sugar will declined and people will save from health issues.
In conclusion, I think that awareness programs, and made rules and regulations will be the best ways rather than made sugar products more expensive to encourage to consume less sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the proposed tax, suggesting alternative solutions like awareness programs and stricter regulations. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. The arguments are repetitive, and the examples provided, such as 'events in every cities', lack depth or specific detail to fully support the points made. While the position is consistent throughout, the response would benefit from more detailed explanations of how these alternative measures would realistically function to reduce sugar consumption compared to the proposed price increase.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'instead of this state have to' is awkward and hinders the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. While there is an overall structure, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the phrasing make the cohesion feel somewhat basic and occasionally disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'sugar', 'problems', and 'rules and regulations'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'high consume of sugar' instead of 'high consumption' and 'made rules and regulations' instead of 'implementing rules'. The range is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but the lack of variety and the frequent inaccuracies in word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision expected at higher levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('State have to held'), incorrect verb forms ('it will not necessary to made'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation are noticeable and occasionally impede the reader's flow. The control over complex structures is weak, and the sentence construction often feels forced or unnatural due to these recurring errors.
