Student answer (Band 6.0)
In modern world, many food and drinks products have too much sugar inside them. This is causing many health problems like fatness and diabetes for many people. Some people think that making these sugary products more expensive is good idea to make people eat less sugar. Personally, I agree with this opinion because it can stop people from buying unhealthy things, but we also need other ways too.
On the one hand, if the government make sugary products expensive, people will buy less. When sodas and candies cost more money, poor people and children cannot afford to buy them everyday. They will save their money and buy healthy things like water and fruit. for example many countries put tax on sweet drinks and the sales went down very fast. So, high prices is a good way to control the sugar problems.
On the other hand , only changing the price is not enough to solve everything. Rich people have a lot of money so they do not care about higher prices and they will keep buying sugary foods. Also, if people do not know why sugar is bad, they will find other cheap food that is also unhealthy. Therefore, government must teach people about health. They should have lessons in schools to teach children about good food and put clear information on the packet.
In conclusion, i think making sugary food and drinks expensive is a good idea to reduce the problem. But the government should also educate the people about the healthy lifestyle so the problem can be solved completely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You acknowledge the benefits of taxation while also providing a balanced view by discussing its limitations and the need for education. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of taxes on sugary drinks leading to reduced sales. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are slightly more detailed; for instance, instead of saying 'many countries', you could specify a region or a specific type of tax policy to add depth to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is clear, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences within paragraphs is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your line of reasoning effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'sugary products', 'tax', and 'lifestyle'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary (e.g., 'good idea', 'bad', 'things'). To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'fatness', use 'obesity', and instead of 'good idea', consider 'a viable strategy' or 'an effective measure'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are frequent errors in articles (e.g., 'In modern world' should be 'In the modern world') and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if the government make' should be 'if the government makes'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor slips such as the space before the comma in 'On the other hand ,'. To improve, focus on mastering basic grammatical rules like article usage and verb conjugation, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
