Student answer (Band 6.0)

I strogly agree with this content. Lots of pre cooked food and bevarages contain high amount of sugar, which reason for many health issues. It can be encourage people to consume less sugar by increasing the price of sugary products.

With the development of the society people get more busy with preparing their food. Therefore, people tend to buy manufactured food and drink products for their easiness. It helps them to reduce the time waste to prepare food. But this becomes a major health issue. This prepared food contains high amount of suger which cause diabetes and other health problems among population. Even if there are lots of awareness programs regarding this problem, prople do not reduce the use of this junk food. Many people think that with their busy life and compared to their salaries, this manufactured food usage is worth for them.

A recent research done by Dr. Smith says that the main reason of the use of junk food is the cost effectiveness. According to this research, with the avarage salary amount, use of prepaired food and beverages are less expensive than prepare healthy food and drinks.

So, my opinion is if the price of junk food and bevarages are high, copared to the salary people think twice before buy the manufactured food. Because, we always think about cost effectiveness when we buy something. It helps to reduce the junk food and bevarage usage for considerable amount.

In conclusion, by increasing the amount of prepared food can reduce high amount of health issues among the population. So, the government should involve this immediately.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response clearly addresses the prompt by taking a strong, clear position of agreement regarding whether sugary manufactured products should be made more expensive to curb consumption. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as time constraints in modern life making pre-cooked foods attractive, the role of cost-effectiveness, and the financial impact of price increases. However, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and lack extension with deeper examples or precise data, which prevents the response from reaching Band 7. For instance, the mention of Dr. Smith's research is a good attempt to support the argument, but it is stated too generally without specific figures or deeper explanation. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed and a consistent position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction, through body paragraphs discussing lifestyle and cost, to a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. For example, transition phrases such as 'With the development of the society' and 'So, my opinion is' are somewhat awkward, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'this manufactured food usage is worth for them'. While paragraphing and basic logical sequencing are present, the misuse and mechanical nature of certain cohesive devices place the response firmly in Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'cost effectiveness', 'awareness programs', and 'manufactured food'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'strogly' instead of strongly, 'bevarages' instead of beverages, 'avarage' instead of average, 'prepaired' instead of prepared, and 'involve' instead of intervene or implement. These errors do not seriously impede communication because the reader can still grasp the intended meaning, but they restrict the lexical score. The writer shows an adequate range for the task, fitting the Band 6 descriptors where errors in spelling and word choice are noticeable but do not block comprehension.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure through sentences like 'Therefore, people tend to buy manufactured food and drink products for their easiness.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, article usage, and prepositions, such as 'which reason for many health issues', 'reduce the time waste to prepare food', 'among population', and 'compared to the salary people think twice before buy'. Additionally, punctuation and phrasing errors appear regularly, for instance 'compared to the salary people think twice before buy the manufactured food'. Despite these frequent errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded, which aligns well with the Band 5 to Band 6 threshold. On balance, because simple structures are handled reasonably well and complex attempts are mostly understandable, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
