Student answer (Band 6.0)
I agree to some extent that sugary products should be made more costly to encourage the community to intake less sugar. However, there are certain drawbacks of this decision from an industrial perspective. Therefore, I believe it's important to strike a balance between production and consumption of sugary products.
In terms of production, industries should replace sugar with artifical sweeteners in order to prevent health problems. For instance:coca-cola diet version is available now that too at a much cheaper rate than the one with added sugar. Here, the company took price range and artificial alternatives both into consideration. That being said, some products lose their natural flavour by cutting out the added sugar. Thus, the company can increase their product price range in order to minimise the consumption of those certain products.
Regarding consumption, self awareness should prevail among consumers about the product they are intaking. Consumption can be restricted by price increment but it is almost somewhat subjective to those who are financially solvent. The folks here should be abstemious regarding these products and the community should encourage them for their endeavor. Ingredient labels should be read by everyone before consuming a product. For example: A person would be reluctant to drink a bottle of coca-cola if he reads the ingredient list and finds out that it provides 22gm sugar per 100ml serving. Hence, certain awareness regarding consumption can assist us in maintaining health problems among the community.
In conclusion, companies should replace added sugar with healthier alternatives while people should work on their consumption of these sweet products. The products whose main essence is the added sugar should be sold to customers at a much higher price in order to obstruct average daily intake.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the idea of making sugary products more expensive and the alternative perspective of industrial production and consumer awareness. You present a clear position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. The ideas are extended, such as discussing artificial sweeteners and personal responsibility, although some arguments lean slightly towards generalisation. For instance, mentioning that 'coca-cola diet version is available now that too at a much cheaper rate' is a specific and relevant example used to support your stance. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with relevant and well-developed ideas, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
Your essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You successfully divide the response into appropriate paragraphs, moving from an introduction to production perspectives, consumption awareness, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Regarding consumption', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing and transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. For example, the sentence 'The folks here should be abstemious regarding these products' lacks smooth integration with the preceding statement. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, maintaining a clear overall structure that guides the reader logically from one point to the next, earning a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You utilise an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempt less common items such as 'abstemious', 'financially solvent', and 'obstruct average daily intake'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, using 'intake' as a verb ('to intake less sugar') is unnatural; 'consume' or 'ingest' would be more appropriate. Additionally, expressions like 'maintaining health problems' convey the opposite of your intended meaning, as you want to prevent or mitigate health problems rather than maintain them. Despite these lexical slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a willingness to experiment with varied structures. You show good control of basic punctuation and sentence construction, but there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present. Examples include 'I agree to some extent that sugary products should be made more costly' (which is accurate), alongside problematic constructions such as 'available now that too at a much cheaper rate' and 'certain awareness regarding consumption can assist us in maintaining health problems'. While these errors do not impede communication, they recur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is awarded.
