Student answer (Band 4.5)

Yes, many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems to specially the young generation who love to eat packet foods and drinking stuff from markets but I disagree with the statement that increasing prices on the food stuff will help out with less comsumption, what I believe is that increasing prices will not totally help in decreasing consume rate of products instead of this the company should take charges to use appropriate amount of sugar in their products as well as they should also mention in the back of the products about sugar quanitity and its side effects on the body so that people who consume that get a warning about the health issues after taking large amount of sugar and what i believe is that there should advertisements related to awareness of sugar consumptions and the side effects and health issues that can occur because of large amout of sugar intake serious problems like diabetes that will make your body weak and also increases weight by adding excess of fat to the body.People should make aware through television advertisements poster awareness campaign and through social media to waken up them about things they take lightly like intake of sugar. So I totally disagree that people will not consume it after increasing price of products like these. making them aware through different platforms and printing warnings at the back of the products about excess consumption of sugar will be best rather than making it expensive

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly disagreeing with the statement that increasing the price of sugary products is the best solution. Instead, alternative solutions are proposed, such as company regulations, warning labels, and public awareness campaigns. However, the response struggles with task development. The entire essay consists of one massive, run-on paragraph, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While the writer takes a clear position, the arguments are repetitive and lack deep elaboration, tending to list solutions rather than fully exploring the consequences or feasibility of price increases versus alternatives. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

Coherence and cohesion are severely compromised by the complete absence of paragraphing. The entire text is a single continuous sentence-like block of 252 words without any structural division. Cohesive devices are either missing or overly repetitive, relying heavily on strings of 'and' and 'what I believe is that'. There is no clear logical progression or signposting to guide the reader through an introduction, body, and conclusion. Although the overall topic remains consistent, the lack of organization places this response firmly in Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a basic and limited lexical resource. Words and phrases such as 'packet foods', 'drinking stuff', 'consume rate', and 'waken up them' are unnatural and imprecise. There is an over-reliance on basic vocabulary ('foods', 'drinks', 'things', 'body') and repetition of key terms like 'sugar', 'products', and 'consume'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of control over collocation and word choice restricts the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatically, the response is characterized by a lack of punctuation, resulting in a run-on sentence that spans the entire text. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('People should make aware'), incorrect prepositions ('drinking stuff from markets', 'on the back of the products'), and awkward clause structures ('instead of this the company should take charges'). The range of structures is limited primarily to repetitive, overly long complex-compound strings connected by coordinating conjunctions. These frequent errors impede smooth reading, justifying a Band 4.0.
