Student answer (Band 6.0)
Various products such as food and drinks containing high levels of sugar are easily available around the world and consumption of such products are causing various health problems. I support to the statement that sugary products should be made more costly so that people would reduce the consumption. This can promote the alternative product which contains healthy and natural sugar. Also, making people aware about negative impact can reduce the level of consumption.
Firstly, if the sugary products are made more expensive than people will choose cheap alternative product containing natural sugar which can really benefit the health. This is because, increasing the price decreases the demand of the product and people will ultimately shift towards cheap and healthy option. Many fruits like grapes and sugarcanes can be used as a substitute product of refined sugar. As a result, it can save the cost of people along with benefiting their health. For example, recently Nepal increase tax on sugar, so people are purchasing it less as its price rise.
Secondly, along with increasing in the price, wearing people about negative impact of refined sugar on health will decrease the consumption of such products. Educational institutions should aware students about different problems that might impact our health by consuming such foods and drinks containing high levels of sugar. Awareness and education is the most important, because many people are suffering from diabetes in an early age. As a result, people become more health conscious and reduce the consumption. For instance, recent data from World Health Organisation (WHO) declares that there are increasing number of patients suffering from diabetes in an early age.
To conclude, various sugary products should be made costly, so that people will reduce its consumption and they start to focus on using alternative products with help benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that agrees with making sugary products more expensive to curb consumption. The student supports this stance with two main ideas: promoting healthier natural alternatives and raising public awareness about health impacts. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the reference to Nepal increasing sugar taxes and World Health Organization data on diabetes. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalize and some parts of the explanation lack deeper analytical development. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear and consistent position throughout, meeting the criteria for Band 6.5, which rounds to a solid 6.5 based on standard IELTS scoring conventions, or strictly aligning with Band 7 for addressing all parts and extending ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link sections, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude', although some referencing is a bit mechanical. Logical progression is generally maintained throughout the text, as the writer moves smoothly from the thesis to economic arguments and then to educational awareness. However, transitions within paragraphs could sometimes be smoother to achieve higher bands. Overall, the organization is clear and logical, demonstrating the key features of Band 6.0 moving toward Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'substitute product', 'refined sugar', and 'health conscious'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text. For example, the student writes 'I support to the statement' instead of 'I support the statement', 'wearing people about' instead of 'warning people about', and 'with help benefits' instead of 'with health benefits'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching higher bands where precision and flexibility are required. The lexical range is sufficient for the task and meets Band 6.0 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional and relative clauses such as 'if the sugary products are made more expensive than people will choose...' and 'products containing high levels of sugar'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, articles, and prepositions. Examples include 'consumption of such products are causing' (subject-verb agreement), 'than people will choose' (incorrect conjunction use instead of 'then'), and 'in an early age' instead of 'at an early age'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they persist throughout the response and place the grammar firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
