Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response is severely under length, containing only 147 words against the minimum requirement of 250 words. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the middle of the second paragraph ("The second..."). Because the response does not fully develop a position or complete the task, it falls short of the expectations for a complete IELTS essay. While the introduction briefly touches upon the prompt's theme regarding sugar consumption and pricing, the lack of completion and overall brevity heavily penalise this criterion, aligning the performance with Band 4.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text demonstrates a basic attempt at organising an introduction and body paragraphs. However, because the essay is cut off mid-sentence in the second paragraph ("The second"), overall progression is severely disrupted. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively (e.g., "Nowdays", "To reduce reduce"), and paragraphing is incomplete. While the logical intent to outline health consequences is visible in the first body paragraph, the abrupt termination prevents any full logical development or conclusion. This performance reflects Band 4.0 characteristics.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout. Examples include "Nowdays" (Nowadays), "accessive" (excessive), "triggers" (trigger), "cosumption" (consumption), and "harmfull" (harmful). There are also collocation and phrasing awkwardness such as "intaking of sugar" and "undoubtfully harmfull effects". The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying simple ideas, but frequent errors place it at Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The writer attempts some complex structures, but these contain frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include "which may triggers symptoms" (subject-verb agreement error), "many suggest that the price of such products should be increase" (passive voice error), and "As various researches has shown" (uncountable noun usage and subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also erratic. Due to the very limited range of accurate structures and the incomplete nature of the response, a Band 4.0 is appropriate.
