Student answer (Band 5.5)

Most of the premade edible things which carry high amount of sugar available in market should be sell on high prices so there demand should be decreased among people so they could protect them from the health concerns due to sugary products. In my opinion i totally agree to this preception because they are easily accessible on stores.

The man made products of food and drinks which carry a high proportion of sugar available to people must be expensive because most of the people around me are from the normal financial families. For instance, they hardly cover the expenses of there bread and butter. So if they sell these products at high prices most of the people might not be able to afford these things will not consume them.Mostly people are unaware of the hazards of these things and others are addicted to them due to there flavours and taste combinations .

On the other hand the people who can afford expensive things as well if the are familiar with the side affects of them will not buy them and also if they buy them at high cost the comapnies which are producing these products will also not bear any loses.

I used to drink soda and energy drinks a lot few years ago but when the prices of those products were raised i quite them now i drink them once a week only.

To sum up this is a good decision to raise the cost of the factory products which contain a high amount of sugar in them to decrease there intake among people although there should be more workshops to educate people about the harmful effects of these products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with reasons and a personal example. The writer argues that raising prices will deter normal income families and people unaware of hazards, while retaining consumers who can afford it. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, falling into Band 6 descriptors. For instance, the argument about people who can afford the products is slightly vague and undeveloped. Nevertheless, the main position is clear throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing financial impact and personal experience, followed by a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Words like 'premade edible things' and referencing terms are occasionally unclear, and transitional devices between sentences are basic or missing (e.g., 'On the other hand' is used loosely). Paragraphing is attempted adequately, but the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward sentence linking. These features place the response firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0, best represented by a 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'accessible', 'financial families', 'hazards', and 'addicted'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'sell' instead of 'sold', 'preception' instead of 'perception', 'stores' instead of 'shops', 'there' instead of 'their', 'comapnies' instead of 'companies', 'loses' instead of 'losses', and 'quite' instead of 'quit'. These errors do not completely impede communication, reflecting a Band 5.5 or 6.0 lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to form multi-clause sentences such as 'So if they sell these products at high prices most of the people might not be able to afford these things will not consume them.' However, grammar and punctuation control is weak, with frequent errors including run-on sentences, missing commas, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'should be sell on high prices', 'there demand should be decreased'). These errors frequently cause strain and difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.
